2- High Risk of Having Eating Disorders
Being obsessed with anything, including weight loss will not bring anyone any good, especially the teens. Teens are not yet practicing critical thinking all the time, so they are easily swayed into doing “anything” just to attain this goal. This may even include acquiring eating disorders. These eating disorders include: 1- Bulimia This eating disorder is displayed by the person doing binge eating or uncontrollable eating followed by purging through. Usually, people with bulimia eats a lot of food in just a short amount of time. Then, they will purge what they eat through induced vomiting or by taking stimulant or laxatives because they are afraid they would gain weight because of what they ate. 2- Anorexia Anorexia nervosa or plainly anorexia is another eating disorder where the person does excessive food restriction by having incorrect eating habits just to obsess on having a thin figure even if they are already underweight. Some people with anorexia also have an excessive fear of gaining weight.
3- Risk of Receiving Improper Nutrition
Teens that are obsessing to lose weight also run the risk of receiving improper or inappropriate nutrition. This is not good, as teens need sufficient amount of nutrient in order for their body to grow and develop well. Most teens do not really have a solid diet plan made up or even suitable for their health needs or their current health state. In this light, they may just go into blindly following diet fads or may just forcefully reduce what they are eating. They might even just eat what they “believe” as something that will help them in losing weight. So, in essence, they are not really losing weight, they are just depriving themselves of the important vitamins and minerals that their bodies need so they can grow brighter and healthier.
