- It can make you fat if you are not paying attention to the food quality.
Many new vegetarians fall into this mistake without even knowing it. If you are eating food just because it is vegetarian and you are not paying any attention to the quality, you are risking yourself of gaining extra weight. How so? Well, if you are eating cakes, candies, potato, or soda all the time, you are then, a vegetarian by definition. And, without even putting out the calories calculator, you will know that these foods are packed with extra calories and less nutrients. These are vegetarian since they are technically meat free. So, how do you make it right? You have to keep in mind that being a true vegetarian would mean that the food, which you eat, must be packed with nutrients and not just the fact that it does not contain any animals on it.
- It can make you fat if you assume that ALL vegetarian meals have low calories.
So, you are a vegetarian and you feel that all of the vegetarian meals you munch are low in calories. That is not always true. There are many people who are vegetarian, yet they are gaining on some weight. But, they said even if you eat a lot of vegetables, you would not get fat? Well, yeah, that is we are talking about vegetables alone. Bread, cereals, and pasta also count as vegetarian food yet they are high in carbohydrates and calories. Take for example the vegetarian quinoa or the vegetarian lasagna. Technically, these are modified so that vegetarians can eat them. They are lighter in the tummy and they are made up of healthy ingredients. However, they are astoundingly high in calories.
Some of the vegetarian ingredients that are often used in meals would include seeds, nuts, oils, as well as soy cheeses. These are all packed with fats and calories. Therefore, if you will be munching on one cup of kale steamed, that will have about 35 calories in it. However, if you will be sautéing it in about two tablespoons of olive oil, you will increase its calorie count to a whopping 275 calories.
Knowing about this, you will do well in reading the labels that you will see in the food that you eat, if it is not provided, doing a research about it would not hurt.
